Scandinavian Runes, also known as the Elder Futhark, are more than just an ancient alphabet used by the Germanic and Norse tribes. Dating back to the 2nd century AD, this sacred script served as a powerful tool for communication, protection, and spiritual guidance throughout the Viking Age.
The Origin of the Runes
According to Norse mythology, the runes were not "invented" but rather "discovered" by Odin, the All-Father. To gain the wisdom of the runes, Odin sacrificed himself by hanging from the World Tree, Yggdrasil, for nine days and nights. Through this ordeal, the secrets of the runic symbols were revealed to him, bridging the gap between the mundane and the divine.
